Meet Our Discernment Team


FFMC's Discernment Team is a group of FFMC members gathering to discern the missional identity of our church. The Discernment Team is seeking God's guidance about who God is calling us to be and what God is calling us to do in the city of Seattle.

Two Team Members Added After Congregational Meeting

Pastor Matt and the Leadership Team heard your feedback at the February congregational meeting and added two individuals to the Discernment Team: Eli Hamlin and Deepak Divaker.

Updates From The Team


The Discernment team will hold meetings throughout the course of 2018 and work through a process of study, input, revision, and implementation. You will be able to find team and meeting updates below throughout the duration of this process.

Study Phase: Feb-May

Input Phase: May-June*

Revision Phase: July-August

Ignite Phase: Fall 2018

*During the input phase, the team will meet with small groups of people to gather input. If you would like the team to meet with your group, contact the church office.

Focus Groups (June)


The Discernment Team is hosting focus groups on Sun, Jun 3 and Sun, Jun 17 after the worship service, as well as hosting groups in neighborhoods during the week. You are invited to take a look at the dates below and schedule a time to attend one of the groups!

The team discussed the function of a mission statement and debriefed conversations had with colleagues and neighbors outside of FFMC.



Apr 26, 2018

The team discussed conversations with colleagues and identified common themes. The team also talked about what authentic mission and ministry look like.

The team planned for upcoming conversations with focus groups inside and outside of FFMC.

The team talked about current church values and the relationship between these and the perceived values of our neighbors outside the church. The group also discussed this article from Christianity Today.

The team talked about the group's purpose and scope of work and went on a prayer walk through the neighborhoods surrounding FFMC.
